Kanna Dosage (2026): Sceletium Tortuosum Serving By Product, From The Labels

There is no single standard kanna dose. The right amount depends on how concentrated the product is, and kanna (Sceletium tortuosum) extracts range from about 5% to 24% total alkaloids. The more concentrated the extract, the smaller the serving on the label.

Below are the starting servings printed on Ultrakanna’s product labels, what the published clinical studies used, and the safety rules that apply to every format. This is educational content, not medical advice.

Why The Numbers Differ So Much

Kanna products are standardized to a total alkaloid percentage. A powder at 24% carries almost five times the alkaloids of one at 5%, so the same milligram amount is a very different serving.

  • Most concentrated (MX line, 12% to 24%): labels start at 5mg.
  • Standard concentration (about 5% to 6.5%): labels start at 10 to 20mg.
  • Pre-measured formats (gumdrops, capsules): the serving is fixed per piece, which is why they suit beginners.

Powders at 5mg or 10mg are too small to eyeball. Use a milligram scale, or choose a pre-measured format instead.

What The Clinical Studies Used

The published human trials used a different standardized extract, Zembrin, so the doses are not directly comparable with the products above. They do show the range researchers have tested:

  • Nell et al., 2013: 8mg and 25mg of Zembrin once daily for three months in healthy adults. Both doses were well tolerated.
  • Chiu et al., 2014: 25mg of Zembrin once daily for three weeks in healthy adults.

Safety Rules For Every Format

  • Start at the lowest label serving and increase by no more than 5mg at a time.
  • Wait at least an hour before taking more.
  • Do not combine kanna with antidepressants (SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs) or other prescription medication. If you recently stopped one, wait several months first.
  • Do not mix kanna with alcohol.
  • Talk to a healthcare professional before use, especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a medical condition.

These rules follow Ultrakanna’s own product guidance. Our what is kanna guide covers the plant and its alkaloids in more depth.

Which Format Makes Dosing Easiest?

If measuring milligrams sounds like a chore, start with a pre-measured format: gumdrops or capsules such as KannaCalm Xtra. Droplets sit in the middle, dosed by the drop. Powders give the most control once you know your serving.

Kanna Dosage FAQ

What is a normal kanna dose?

It depends on concentration. Ultrakanna labels start the concentrated MX powders at 5mg and standard 5% to 6.5% powders at 10 to 20mg. Gumdrops come pre-measured at 50mg of extract each.

How much Sceletium tortuosum should I take?

Follow the label of the specific product, starting at the lowest serving. Clinical studies of the Zembrin extract used 8mg to 25mg once daily, but that extract is not the same as retail powders.

How long should I wait before taking more kanna?

At least an hour, and increase by no more than 5mg at a time, per Ultrakanna’s guidance.

Can I take kanna with antidepressants?

No. Kanna affects serotonin, so it should not be combined with SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs or other prescription medication. Speak to your doctor.
